FAQ - Help Center

Welcome to our FAQ, we are so happy to have you here and as a client.
We have tried to answer the most common questions.

Shipping & Delivery

Where do you ship?

We ship Japanese products from Japan to the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, many European countries, Australia, New Zealand, and selected destinations across Asia and South America.

Shipping availability may change because of postal restrictions or local import requirements. The country selector and the destinations available at checkout show our current shipping availability.

If your country cannot be selected at checkout, we are temporarily unable to accept orders for that destination.

Which shipping carriers do you use?

Most orders are shipped from Japan using Japan Post with tracking.

After a parcel reaches the destination country, final delivery is normally completed by the local postal service or a partner carrier.

Any additional shipping options available for your destination will be displayed at checkout.

How much does shipping cost?

Our current standard shipping rates are:

  • United States: US $12
  • Europe: €10
  • Canada: CAD $16
  • Mexico: MXN $200
  • Australia: AUD $17
  • New Zealand: NZD $20
  • Selected destinations in Asia: US $12 or the local-currency equivalent
  • Selected destinations in South America: US $12 or the local-currency equivalent

The final shipping charge will be displayed at checkout before payment.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes. Standard shipping is free on qualifying orders over US$150€130, or the displayed equivalent in supported markets.

The threshold is calculated after discounts and before applicable taxes or import charges.

If part of an order is cancelled or refunded and the remaining order no longer qualifies for free shipping, the applicable shipping charge may be deducted from the refund where permitted by law.

How long will delivery take?

Orders are normally prepared within 1–2 business days.

Estimated transit times after dispatch are:

  • Most destinations: 5–20 days
  • South America: 10–20 days

These estimates do not include customs clearance or final delivery by the local carrier.

Customs inspections, public holidays, severe weather, postal disruptions and high-volume periods may cause delays.

Will I receive tracking information?

Yes. We will email your tracking number after your order has been dispatched.

Tracking may take a short time to update after the carrier first receives the parcel.

Please monitor your tracking regularly. Local carriers may hold a parcel for collection without making another delivery attempt.

You can track using our TRACKING TOOL or using Japan Post or your local carrier tracking tools.

Why was my order shipped in multiple packages?

Orders weighing more than 2kg, containing restricted combinations of products or requiring different packaging may be divided into multiple parcels.

Each parcel will have its own tracking number and may arrive on a different date. Customs authorities may also process and charge each parcel separately.

My order has not arrived. What should I do?

First, check the tracking link in your shipping-confirmation email. Then:

  1. Confirm that the shipping address on your order is correct.
  2. Check with household members, neighbours or building management.
  3. Contact your local postal service if tracking shows that the parcel is being held or has been delivered.
  4. If you still cannot locate it, email order@buymejapan.com with your order number and tracking number.

If the parcel has not been delivered within 45 days of the order date, contact us so we can investigate and, when eligible, arrange a refund or another appropriate resolution.

What happens if I refuse the parcel or do not collect it?

If a parcel is refused, left unclaimed or returned because import charges were not paid:

  • The original shipping charge is non-refundable.
  • €10 restocking fee, or the local-currency equivalent, may be deducted.
  • Carrier return fees, customs charges, taxes and other costs incurred when the parcel returns to Japan may also be deducted.
  • Any remaining eligible merchandise amount will be refunded after the parcel has returned and been inspected.

If you would like the order shipped again, you will need to pay the new shipping charge and any related costs.

Customs, Duties and Taxes

Are customs duties and taxes included in the price?

This depends on the destination.

United States

Buy Me Japan currently collects a 12.5% import duty at checkout for orders shipped to the United States. This allows the duty to be prepaid and helps reduce the possibility of an additional customs-duty payment upon delivery.

Other fees imposed by authorities or carriers may still apply in exceptional circumstances.

European Union

Buy Me Japan does not currently collect EU VAT or customs duties at checkout. The recipient is responsible for VAT, customs duty, clearance fees and any other import charges assessed before delivery.

From July 1, 2026, qualifying consignments valued at €150 or less may be subject to a temporary €3 customs duty for each different product category or tariff classification in the parcel.

The final amount is calculated by customs authorities and may vary depending on the contents of the order.

Other destinations

Unless checkout clearly states otherwise, VAT, sales tax, customs duty and import fees are not prepaid. The recipient is responsible for charges imposed by the destination country or carrier.

We recommend checking your local customs rules before ordering. Buy Me Japan cannot control or predict every charge assessed by local authorities.

Orders and Payments

Which payment methods do you accept?

Depending on your country and device, we accept:

  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • American Express
  • JCB
  • PayPal
  • Apple Pay
  • Google Pay
  • Shop Pay

Bancontact may be available in Belgium, and iDEAL may be available in the Netherlands.

Available payment methods will be displayed at checkout.

What will appear on my bank statement?

Your payment may appear as SP BUY ME JAPAN or SP Buy Me Japan on your bank or card statement.

How do I use a discount code?

Enter your code in the discount-code field during checkout. Confirm that the discount appears before completing payment.

Unless the promotion states otherwise:

  • Only one discount code can be used per order.
  • Discounts cannot be added after an order has been placed.
  • Codes may have expiry dates, minimum-spend requirements or product exclusions.
  • Promotional offers generally cannot be combined.
Can I change my delivery address?

Email order@buymejapan.com immediately with your order number and the corrected address.

We can only change an address if the order has not been dispatched and the request can be completed before fulfilment.

Once an order has shipped, the address cannot normally be changed. Buy Me Japan is not responsible for delivery problems caused by an incorrect or incomplete address supplied at checkout.

Can I add products to an existing order?

Contact us before placing another order.

If your first order has not entered the final stage of fulfilment, we may ask you to place a separate order and then combine the shipments. When combination is possible, we will refund any duplicate standard shipping charge.

Combining orders is not guaranteed. Once an order has shipped, products cannot be added and shipping charges cannot be refunded.

Is there a limit on how many products I can order?

Yes. A maximum of 25 items is allowed per order.

Large orders may be divided into multiple parcels. For wholesale quantities or larger purchases, please contact us before ordering.

Can I cancel my order?

You may request cancellation before your order has been dispatched.

If the order was placed less than 24 hours ago, you can request cancellation directly from your My Account page. The cancellation will be processed automatically.

If more than 24 hours have passed, please contact order@buymejapan.com with your order number to request cancellation.

Cancellation is not guaranteed, as fulfilment may begin shortly after payment.

If cancellation is approved, the refund will be issued to the original payment method. Orders that have already shipped cannot be cancelled, although statutory return or withdrawal rights may still apply.

What happens if an item becomes unavailable after I order?

We work to keep our inventory accurate, but occasionally an item may become unavailable after payment.

If this happens, we will notify you and refund the unavailable item to your original payment method. The remaining available items may be shipped as a partial order.

If the unavailable item materially changes the value of your order, contact us promptly after receiving the notification. Where possible, we will review the available options before dispatch.

Returns, Problems and Refunds

What is your general return policy?

Outside any statutory cancellation rights that apply in your location, returns and exchanges are accepted only when:

  • An item arrives damaged or defective.
  • An item is missing from the parcel.
  • The product received is different from the product ordered or materially different from its description.
  • A tracked parcel has not been delivered within 45 days of the order date.

Do not return a product without contacting us first. Unauthorized returns may not be accepted.

My item arrived damaged, defective, incorrect or incomplete. What should I do?

Contact refund@buymejapan.com within 45 days of delivery and include:

  • Your order number
  • A clear description of the issue
  • Photographs or video showing the item, damage, outer packaging and shipping label
  • A photograph of the complete parcel contents if an item is missing

Keep the product and all packaging until our review is complete.

Depending on the circumstances, we may offer a replacement, refund or another appropriate resolution.

Do EU and UK customers have a right to cancel?

Customers in the European Union and United Kingdom may have a statutory right to cancel an eligible online purchase within 14 days of delivery without giving a reason.

To request cancellation under an applicable statutory right, contact refund@buymejapan.com within 14 days of delivery and wait for return instructions.

Products must be unused and returned with their original packaging, labels, seals, accessories and protective materials.

Exceptions may apply to personalized products, rapidly perishable goods and sealed hygiene-sensitive products after they have been opened or unsealed. This may include cosmetics, skincare, makeup, sunscreen, haircare, bath and body products, personal-care products, beauty tools, food, drinks and certain gift sets.

The customer is responsible for return postage and disclosed return-related costs unless applicable law or the circumstances require Buy Me Japan to pay them.

Where required by law, an eligible refund will include the product price and the cost of standard outbound delivery. Premium delivery upgrades, import taxes, customs duties, clearance fees and other charges are excluded unless applicable law requires otherwise.

How long does a refund take?

After a refund is approved, we will return it to the original payment method.

Most refunds appear within 2–10 business days, although the exact timing depends on the payment provider and financial institution.

If ten business days have passed since receiving our refund confirmation, contact your bank or card provider first. If they cannot locate the refund, email us for assistance.

Products

Are your products authentic?

Yes. Buy Me Japan sells genuine products sourced in Japan through established suppliers and distribution channels. Products are shipped directly from Japan.

Packaging may change when a Japanese manufacturer updates a product, so an item may look slightly different from an older photograph.

If you have concerns about a product you received, contact us with your order number and clear photographs.

Why does the product packaging look different from the website photo?

Japanese manufacturers regularly update product packaging, ingredients, sizes and designs.

You may receive the newest version available in Japan even if the website displays an earlier package design. The product will remain genuine, but customers should always review the label before use because formulas can also change.

Are Japanese products safe to use?

Our products are manufactured for the Japanese market and sold in accordance with applicable Japanese standards. However, formulations, permitted ingredients, usage instructions and labelling requirements may differ between Japan and your country.

Before using a cosmetic or personal-care product:

  • Review the ingredient list and usage instructions.
  • Check for ingredients you know you are sensitive or allergic to.
  • Patch-test skincare, haircare and makeup products when appropriate.
  • Stop using the product if irritation occurs.
  • Ask a qualified healthcare professional before using supplements or products while pregnant, nursing, taking medication or managing a medical condition.

Product information is provided for general shopping purposes and is not medical advice.

Where can I find allergen and ingredient information?

Available ingredient and allergen information is shown on the product page or manufacturer’s packaging.

Japanese food products may contain common allergens such as wheat, soy, milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish or sesame. Manufacturing facilities may also process other allergens.

If you have a serious allergy, contact us before ordering. Because formulations can change, the information printed on the product packaging should be treated as the most current source.

Will the packaging and instructions be in English?

Many products are manufactured for the Japanese domestic market, so their packaging and printed instructions may be primarily in Japanese.

We provide English product information where available, but the manufacturer’s packaging remains the authoritative source for ingredients, warnings and directions.

Contact us before ordering if you need clarification about a specific product.

How can I check a product’s expiry date?

Japanese cosmetics often use a production or batch code instead of printing an expiry date, particularly when the unopened shelf life meets Japanese labelling requirements.

Food, supplements and products with shorter shelf lives generally display a best-before or expiry date.

Store products according to the manufacturer’s directions and avoid excessive heat, humidity and direct sunlight. Contact us with the product name and batch information if you need help understanding a date or code.
